Good morning, L&A!

An old shirt could become your next front-porch decoration today. Tamworth has a scarecrow-making afternoon, downtown Napanee is filling with classic cars and live music, and Newburgh’s Breakfast on the Farm is here.

We’ve also found a local theatre outing, a $5 evening of music and stories in Bath, and two Napanee open houses worth knowing about.

WHAT’S HAPPENING

Saturday, September 26 | Noon to 4 p.m.
Salmon River Studios, 90 River Road, Tamworth

Bring an old shirt, a hat or a few props and leave with a scarecrow of your own. Organizers will have clothing and supplies on hand, so you can also choose from their collection.

The afternoon includes sunflower-field photo opportunities, pick-your-own bouquets and cotton candy made on site. Scarecrow making is $25 per family or group, and you can reserve ahead or drop in.

It’s a fundraiser for Tamworth’s first Wonderlight Lantern Festival, planned for November, with lantern workshops leading up to a parade and celebration. Salmon River Studios, Tom and Lotte Pottery, Tamworth Central and In The Pines Creative are teaming up to bring it to life.

Saturday, September 26 | 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Downtown Napanee | Free for spectators

Classic cars, hot rods and live music make a good excuse for a downtown wander. Déjà Vu plays the main stage from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with VOODOO Pawn Shop also performing on the courthouse lawn. Awards follow after 2.

There’s a firefighters’ pancake breakfast, a Legion barbecue and a 50/50 draw supporting the L&A County General Hospital Foundation.

While you’re downtown, Market Saturdays runs at Market Square from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for produce, baking and local makers.

Saturday, September 26 | 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
River Valley Cattle Company, Newburgh

The farm visit we flagged last week is happening this morning. The Embury family is welcoming visitors for an Ontario-grown breakfast, a look around their beef farm, cattle, equipment and interactive displays.

If you haven’t booked, check the ticket link on the organizer’s page before heading over.

Saturday, September 26 | 7:30 p.m.
Sunday, September 27 | 2 p.m.
Lennox Community Theatre, 2219 County Road 11, Selby

In Dr. Experimentor and the League of Evil, a supervillain has a problem: staying in the League means defeating a superhero who also happens to be her best friend.

Lennox Community Theatre’s superhero spoof offers an indoor option this weekend. Tickets are listed at $20. There are also performances Thursday, October 1 and Friday, October 2 at 7:30 p.m.

Monday, September 28 | 6 to 7 p.m.
Bath Museum, 434 Main Street, Bath | $5

Amherst Island instrument maker Ross Stuart brings his Rossland TinCan creations to the museum for an evening of stories and live demonstrations.

He’ll explain how he makes acoustic stringed instruments from metal and share the story behind Rossland Gardens, with time for questions. Book ahead through the township’s event page.
