Still figuring out Friday night?

You can catch the MEGA geocaching kickoff in Napanee at 6:30, then head north for a free laser-guided tour of the night sky at 9:15.

Not a bad way to start the weekend.

WHAT'S HAPPENING

📍 Discover L&A MEGA Geocaching Event

Friday, Aug. 14 + Saturday, Aug. 15 | Napanee | Free

Canada's only recurring MEGA geocaching event is back in L&A, drawing geocachers from well beyond the county.

There's still time to join the Friday kickoff at 6:30 p.m. at the Museum of Lennox & Addington. Then Saturday is the big one, with the main event running 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Expect geocaching games, kids' activities, a scavenger hunt, geocoin tables, a photobooth and plenty of people searching for things the rest of us would walk right past.

✨ Free Stargazing Tonight + Saturday

Friday, Aug. 14 + Saturday, Aug. 15 | L&A Dark Sky Viewing Area, Erinsville | 9:15 to 10:45 p.m. | Free

One for anyone reading this Friday evening and wondering what to do tonight.

The L&A Dark Sky Viewing Area is hosting its Laser-Guided Tour of the Night Sky both Friday and Saturday, with an introduction to the night sky and possible telescope viewing.

It's beginner-friendly, free and weather dependent, so check the event page before making the drive.

🌻 Last Call for Sunflowers at Wynn Farms

Saturday, Aug. 15 + Sunday, Aug. 16 | 9592 Loyalist Parkway, Greater Napanee

It's the final scheduled weekend of Wynn Farms' Sunflower Festival.

Admission includes a pick-your-own sunflower, Kawartha Dairy ice cream, face painting, a bouncy castle, a sand pit and plenty of time to wander the sunflower fields.

A solid option if summer photos, ice cream and flowers sound like a better weekend plan than finding things with GPS coordinates.

🏃 Wooly Bully Returns to Amherst Island

Sunday, Aug. 16 | South Shore Road, Amherst Island

The 15th Wooly Bully Races bring runners back to Amherst Island for 5K and 10K routes, plus a 1K kids' run.

The annual race is also the primary fundraiser for the Neilson Store Museum, giving this one a little more local meaning than your average Sunday run.

Heading over from the mainland? Organizers recommend the 7:30 or 8:30 a.m. ferries from Millhaven. The 9:30 ferry is too late for participants.

🚲 Amherstview Celebrates Its New Pump Track

Wednesday, Aug. 19 | Loyalist Park, 133 Pratt Drive, Amherstview | From 6 p.m. | Free

The new Brookland Homes Pump Track is getting an official opening Wednesday, and Loyalist has turned it into a full evening out.

The ribbon-cutting starts at 6 p.m., followed by a BMXTraining613 demonstration at 6:10. Bring a bike and helmet if you want to try the track afterward.

From 6:30 to 8 p.m., Brass Over Tea Kettle closes out this year's TuNes Day concert series, alongside games, face painting and a free hot dog BBQ.

🏡 LOCAL SPOTLIGHT: LORA-LEE THOMAS REAL ESTATE

A local return, 30 years in the making

Lora-Lee Thomas, local realtor and Lennox & Addington native.

For Lora-Lee Thomas, real estate is a new chapter built on a very familiar place.

Lora-Lee grew up in Lennox & Addington and has returned to the community to build her real estate business after more than 30 years helping organizations create better customer experiences.

That background shaped how she approaches the work today: listen closely, build trust and make a big decision feel a little less overwhelming.

And for Lora-Lee, the connection to L&A goes well beyond knowing the market.

It’s the small-town warmth, the countryside, the waterfront and the sense of community she grew up with. Now, she wants to help more people discover those same qualities while helping local homeowners put their properties in front of buyers from across Ontario.

She also brings strong negotiation experience to the table, something she hopes will help local sellers find the right buyer, not simply any buyer.

For Lora-Lee, this isn’t simply where she does business. It’s home.

That makes this less about starting somewhere new and more about bringing decades of experience back to the community that helped shape her.

🏡 HOUSE OF THE WEEK

3858 County Road 1, Stone Mills

$629,900 | 3 bed | 2 bath

Set on 5.7 acres between Yarker and Camden East, this newly listed rural home pairs Napanee River Valley views with a private maple wood, small orchard, barn and detached garage.

Why it stood out: This one feels distinctly L&A. There's enough land and character to stand apart, while the recently installed heat pump, metal roof and roughly 2,600 square feet of living space add some practical appeal too.

Open house: Saturday, Aug. 15, 2 to 4 p.m.

That's it for this week.
